I have been diving and doing underwater photography for over 30 years. Living in southeast Florida provides year-round access to great diving locations.

My favorite type of photography is macro, where half the challenge is finding the small, unusual subjects. For the past few years I have been focusing on black water dives. We go approximately five miles off the coast, close to the Gulf Stream, at night and do a drift dive. It is fascinating to find and photograph the animals that migrate vertically from the deep every night to feed, then identify and learn more about them. I have also traveled to Indonesia and the Philippines to participate in black water dives in the Pacific Ocean.

I am currently using a Nikon D500 and 60mm lens in a Nauticam housing with two Inon Z-330 strobes.  For the black water dives, I add a third strobe and a second focus light.
